DINE AT NEWQUAY'S NEWEST RESTAURANT - HORN AND HOOF!

We are super excited to welcome NewQuay's newest dining venue – Horn and Hoof. Founders, Elena & Serge who are originally from Adelaide were on a holiday in Melbourne and instantly fell in love with NewQuay. With its close proximity to CBD, the warmth of the locals and of course, the breathtaking views - they knew this would be the perfect location.

What is it about?
Horn and Hoof is a themed restaurant serving more than just modern European fare. This is the place where you have “forest food” as they call it.

What is forest food?
Historically forest cooking methods and ingredients have been heavily influenced by the environment they live in. Usually, extreme cold winters and short warm summers would mean little variety during the winter months, meaning preserving produce and cooking with alcohol was essential to have multiple food flavours throughout the long winters.

It’s not all just meat
Forest food doesn’t only mean exotic meat. Horn and Hoof have made sure there are enough choices for all food groups. Interestingly having a menu focused on forest style foods and accompaniments – the menu is almost entirely gluten-free. The only gluten they have on the current menu is in the black bread and crepes.

Meet the chef
Elena was initially taught to cook in the Siberian Forests by her Forester father – each summer they would go camping in the forests – eating only what they caught, hunted or gathered. It was a summer made up of rabbits, deer, wild birds, berries, mushrooms and using spices to make the food taste great.

Sustainability
Elena sources most of their ingredients from local farms and producers. Where possible she will substitute an Australian product where she can keep the authenticity of the dish. So, by dining at Horn and Hoof Restaurant, you are supporting Australian farmers, game suppliers and distributors.

Where can you find them?
Horn and Hoof are opening their door this week at 6/50 NewQuay Promenade. Pop in there to say hello to the lovely duo, enjoy a meal and then sit outside for a drink or cigar while we go into warmer months! Make your reservations here.
