TIRED OF COOKING? TRY THESE ALTERNATIVES TO SPICE THINGS UP!

Let’s be honest, over the course of the last 18 months and 6 lockdowns later, most of us have spent our fair share of time in the kitchen. We’ve cooked every recipe we know, found a heap of new recipes, and cooked those as well. We’ve done it over and over again to the point where I think we all need a little break and some TLC.

If you’re like me, sometimes you just need a night (or a week) off and something a little different to spice up your home meals. Luckily for us, here in Melbourne even in a pandemic, we're still spoilt with so many great food options available at our fingertips. From cheap and tasty to fine dining at home, here are some of my favourites!

Support Local
A quick walk or drive down to your local shops is always easy. Probably my favourite option, not only does it ensure your food is hot, fresh, and ready to eat, it also helps our favourite restaurants keep their doors open so we’re able to dine in again once restrictions ease. It also gets you out of the house briefly and saves you from paying for a delivery fee. Why not use that delivery fee to treat yourself to a dessert instead.

Delivery Services
The obvious one I know but let’s be honest, how easy is it? Delivered to your door almost any time of the day or night, it’s the perfect option if you work late, are feeling a little lazy or just don’t want to get out of your PJ’s. There are so many different services these days such as UberEats, Deliveroo and EASI with even more cuisines to choose from. You’re guaranteed to find whatever it is that you’re craving. Pro Tip: Check out the “deals” or “offers” section and potentially snag yourself a “buy one get one free” or “% discount” on your meal.

Providoor
Featuring some of Melbourne’s most popular and fine dining restaurants as they adapt to providing takeaway meals - many of which have never been offered before. These meals do involve a little work like putting together a few bits and pieces or heating up but the result is a fresh meal served piping hot with some of the finest ingredients. These “put together” kits are great for a date night or special occasion and are the next best thing to the dine in experience. Get in quick and grab one of these before they're no longer available and remember to order at least 24 hours in advance.

Meal Kits
Ok so technically this option doesn’t save you the cooking component, but it does take away the decision making and need to go shopping. Meal kit companies such as Hellofresh, Marleyspoon and Dinnerly offer quick feeds that are pretty healthy and even better for your wallet. If you want meals that are fresh, customisable and easy to prepare, then these are the perfect option. Don’t worry, even amateur cooks will find these easy to put together and some can be done in as little as 15 minutes. In a busy week, ordering a meal for double the people is a great option to use the second portions as lunch or dinner the next day.

Well, I hope these handy tips help inspire your next meal and if you need a recommendation, feel free to contact me or to let me know your favourite meal ideas. Happy eating all!
