DOCKLANDS’ FINAL PLANS APPROVED: COLLINS WHARF

Continuing our multipart series on the final stages of Docklands planning - we’ve seen some exciting activity coming out of Central Docklands. Better known as the Victoria Harbour precinct, LendLease has successfully extended the CBD with its blend of office and residential offers along Collins & Bourke Street.

With space running out after a wave of “sold out” projects in the area, the focus moved to Collins Wharf. A small 700-meter-long land island created in the 1880s to separate the Yarra River and the original Victoria Harbour docks. The 100-meter-wide space has sat mostly undeveloped while the surrounding areas saw a rapid change.

The site was initially envisaged as a five-tower project, though construction slowed down after the completion of the first tower. 915 Collins Street was built almost three years ago with nothing further planned through the council. However, two sister towers were confirmed to be in the planning process earlier this year and recently approved.

Originally reported by Docklands News’ Sean Car, the new two-tower project No.2 and No.3 Collins Wharf will add 668 new apartments to the precinct. LendLease’s head of development for Victoria, Tom Trevaskis said, “It’s fantastic to have secured planning approval for the next two residential towers at Collins Wharf in Victoria Harbour.”

“Designed by Warren and Mahony Architects, the buildings will include a mix of high-quality apartments ranging from one to four bedrooms, together with individual townhomes on Collins St. Their creation will generate many jobs for Victorians and deliver further diversity to Victoria Harbour’s residential offering.”

The two towers at 938 Collins Street will rise to 28 levels and offer unobstructed views of Melbourne’s skyline over Victoria Harbour to the North East or extraordinary aspects along the Yarra on the South West side. With pre-sales off-the-plan yet to commence, we do not have an accurate commencement or completion date. However, with plans now approved by Melbourne City Council, we expect to see an announcement from LendLease in early 2023.
