350 DRONES LIGHT UP DOCKLANDS
350 DRONES LIGHT UP DOCKLANDS

Docklands has been enjoying a spectacular light show each night through January as it plays host to 350 drones. Lighting up the sky above Victoria Harbour, the eight-minute extravaganza will be held twice each night for the rest of January.

This free to attend event does not require people to book tickets in advance, however, I recommend the best views can be experienced from Harbour Esplanade or from the restaurants on the water’s edge, we’d recommend Cargo or Berth.

The first session will start at 9.30 pm, followed by a show at 10.30 pm, weather conditions permitting.

From 15 to 24 January, hear ‘Melbourne, Feel the Sound’, a poem about emerging into our lives again and rediscovering Melbourne, by local artist Ren Alessandra, winner of the National Poetry Slam 2020.

From 25 to 30 January, see the Wurundjeri creation story of ‘How The Platypus (Dulai Wurrung) Was Made’ come to life, told and illustrated by Wurundjeri, Dja Dja wurrung and Ngurai illum wurrung artist Mandy Nicholson.

Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Sally Capp noted that “Docklands provides an ideal venue with plenty of outdoor space to deliver this display safely”.

“The drone swarm has been expertly choreographed to create an incredible show – featuring a unique series of images representing Melbourne and accompanied by special compositions.” the Lord Mayor said.

The event, slated to become Australia’s largest drone show, was funded through the $100 million Melbourne City Recovery Fund, a partnership between the council and the state government to inject life back into the CBD.
